OHIP covers certain components of the eye exam for Children 19 and under, Seniors 65 and over and Diabetic patients. Certain parts of the eye exam that may be vital for our doctors to properly diagnose and treat you are not covered by OHIP. Please see fees listed below
Fees not covered by OHIP: retinal photography, OCT imaging, corneal topography, emergency care, myopia control care and vision therapy.
Retinal Photography: Photography allows us to take a more in depth look at the structures at the back of the eye and detect diseases earlier. We recommend it every 2 years in children 6+, every 2 years in healthy adults 20-64 years old, and every year in diabetics and seniors.
OCT Imaging: OCT is a form of retinal photography that includes a 3D scan of the optic nerve and macula. This allows us to detect and manage diseases such as diabetes, glaucoma, macular degeneration and retinal diseases. This is recommended in patients 40-64 every 1-2 years, and in diabetic and senior patients every year.
Myopia control treatments: Axial length measurements, and management of myopia control treatments such as atropine drops, miyosmart glasses, and specialty contact lenses is not covered by OHIP
You will be dilated at your eye exam, please plan accordingly by bringing a driver if you are not comfortable driving.
Each appointment takes about 30-40 minutes.
Each family member requires their own scheduled appointment.
